Fuel Cells
A fuel cell uses the chemical energy of hydrogen to cleanly and efficiently produce electricity, with water and heat as by products. Fuel cells are unique in that they can be used for a wide variety of applications.
Fuel cells can use a variety of fuels including hydrogen, natural gas, propane, landfill gas and even some types of alcohol. In addition to producing electricity, fuel cells can be used in combined heat and power (CHP) applications to simultaneously provide heat as well as electricity.
Fuel cells have several benefits fossil fuel generators. Because fuel cells produce little or no pollution, they are often preferable in areas with air quality concerns, such as cities. In addition, fuel cells are considerably quieter and more efficient than diesel generators. They also require less maintenance and produce higher quality power.
