Recent Projects
The people at Switch have a wealth of experience in the planning, development, installation, and servicing of on-site renewable energy systems. Some of the recent projects in which we've been involved:
- Solar power and grant-writing assistance for the DC headquarters of the Rainforest Alliance. (Grant awarded as of May 2007. Installation to occur summer 2007).
- Design for a solar power and solar water heating system for a residence.
- Mobile solar power unit and solar lighting for an organic farm.
- Installation and leasing of a 5 kW fuel cell as a commercial back-up power system.
- Solar area lighting for a parking lot.
- Back-up power for signal lights at intersections in the District of Columbia, Northern California, South Carolina, and Virginia.
- Small wind turbines installed at a Wal-Mart.
- Pre-feasibility study for heating and cooling an organic greenhouse using Underground Thermal Energy Storage.
- Deer Isle Wind Farm. Switch has partnered with Coastal Green Energy, LLC to begin work on a wind farm on Deer Isle. The project is in early development. Coastal Green Energy has acquired land on Deer Isle for the wind farm, built an access road and installed an anemometer. Switch assisted Coastal Green Energy in winning a grant from the state of Maine and is beginning a feasibility study. Installation of the wind farm is pending the results of the study.
- Switch partnered with Don Campbell Associates to design a seasonal Underground Thermal Energy Storage system for a greenhouse. The design is for a system employing solar collectors to store heat during the summer months that can be stored underground and used to heat the greenhouse during the winter months.
- Freeflow microhydropower units in the East River of NYC.
- Perimeter security system on trailers (sensors and surveillance) powered by photovoltaics and small wind in North Carolina.
- Solar powered air-conditioning system for an electronic control room at a utility in Austin, Texas.
- Switch has partnered with Century21 Best Value Construction to provide renewable energy, solar water heating systems, and back-up power to businesses and communities in Nicaragua. (Projects pending).
